African Fashion Council (AFC) a UK Company, Number 7605014 was founded by the
CEO, Khayanga D. Wasike, MSc. ISM, and James Dummer. They jointly identified the
need to create a conduit between the African Fashion Brands regionally and
internationally resulting in a bridge for African Brands globally whilst embracing the new
fresh ethical sustainable fashion approach.
AFC believes that the East African Fashion Community is now mature and ready to
promote African Fashion, in this case apparel (High Street Wear, Couture and Celebrity
Style), Cosmetics, and the talents to the rest of the world at a larger scale. AFC are
already in talks with Fairtrade Africa.
AFC endeavours to be totally transparent with an active committee of recognised
fashion professionals and the relevant Government bodies in the respective Countries.
AFC has top professional committee members, and one such personality who has
recently come on board is the well respected fashion expert Lucilla Booyzen the founder
of South African Fashion (SFW) week, www.safashionweek.co.za
AFC are proposing to attend London Fashion Week (LFW) 16th September and South
African Fashion Week (SFW) 22nd September at Rosebank in Johannesburg.
The first ever inaugural African Fashion Council - Long Weekend is scheduled to take place in
Nairobi, Kenya, that will showcase African fashion in collaboration with British and Global
Designers, slanted towards ethical sustainable fashion. The event will target major Fashion Houses,
International Buyers and Sellers, Manufacturers and the Fashion Media Houses.
All African and International designers including jewellery and Accessories will be invited to
apply to participate at the inaugural African Fashion Council Weekend. All applications will be
processed through a strict audition process either directly with AFC or through collaborating
partners. AFC will provide the nucleus of models but the Designers will be allowed to use their own
models subject to strict vetting criteria under the rules of AFC.
AFC will provide expert, promotional advice and a fully functional professional platform to the
African Fashion Designers who have qualified under the terms and conditions of AFC; we will also
work closely with Sustainable Ethical Fashion based companies globally.
One of AFC's objectives is the exportation opportunities for African fashion globally.
KENYA will have the golden opportunity to promote its tourism and culture as the hosting Country
encompassing the East African Community (EAC).
AFC will liaise with all existing Fashion Events within Africa and The Rest of the World. The
African Fashion Council web site is being developed and will be live as soon as
